Stop, Drop and PRAY!

I am enlisting prayer warriors on behalf of a very sick baby who needs to be lifted up to the Lord. Our God is mighty to save and most certainly capable of performing another miracle in the life of Stellan.

Not Me! Monday

Inspired by Mckmama.

I am back from a blogging break and am ready with this last week's brutally honest confessions. Are we ready, folks?

This last week, I most certainly did not blow Weight Watchers right out of the water and pretty much eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted....even if I was not even hungry. No way. it is only my third week at Weight Watchers and my second time weighing in. One would be completely mortified to actually GAIN weight the next week you arrive at the meeting.

I did not skip giving Miriam cereal 1....ok, maybe 2 days in a row and just add in extra nursings when we were out of town. That would be completely lazy and if I were to do something that irresponsible, I would probably have to remind myself that soon she will be eating all the same foods as me and I will not be able to skip out on feeding her. That would be abusive.

Miriam definitely did not face plant on a hard surface this week when she was playing in my lap and lunged for a toy. Not my baby. She is a sweet, quiet girl. She never tries to leave my arms or move so fast to an item that she is not allowed to play with that I can't get there in time. She is demure and dainty.

And if she were to face plant on a hard surface, I would definitely not call my mom and ask her if my child was going to get blood clots in her brain and possibly lose any intelligence she has acquired in her short 6.5 months on this planet. That would be silly.

Last night was definitely not the first night Miriam has spent in her room. And we most definitely did not purchase and set up a motion sensor monitor that will sound a high pitched alarm if she stops breathing. And I definitely did not check on her several times in spite of said alarm.

Milburn Photo Shoot

Miriam is just so darn cute these days. I can't help but take a million pictures. I wanted to share them with you all.

Not Me! Monday....again on Tuesday.

Inspired by Mckmama.

This post will not be long. Not for my lack of Not Me! events, but for my lack of memory and ability to recall said Not Me! events.

This last week, I did not leave numerous items of poopefied clothing in various places throughout the house because I did not want to clean them up. And if I HAD done such a disgustingly horrific thing, I most certainly would not have placed them in places like a bathroom sink full of water and a trash bag tied at the top to avoid having to smell the spoiled outfits.

I joined Weight Watchers this past week to get the remaining amount of my baby weight off. I did really well. Those of you who are familiar with the program will know that you get a certain amount of "extra" points each week to eat whatever you want. You can use a few points each day or all of them at once. It being my very first week returning back to Weight Watchers, I most certainly did not use a ridiculous amount of points eating things like ice cream and candy bars. Nope. Not me. I am starting fresh and will thus forth only be eating things like broccoli and cabbage.

I did not leave a tube of prescription acne cream in Miriam's diaper bag and my mom most certainly did not rub it all over her little tushy thinking it was Desitin. That would be truly careless on my part.

What didn't you do this last week?

Not Me! Monday

Inspired by Mckmama.

Yes, my friends, it is time for another week of confessions regarding things I definitely did NOT do.

This past week, finding that I had run out of toilet paper, I did not step 5 feet out of my bathroom and grab a couple of Miriam's cucumber melon baby wipes. And I most certainly did not enjoy the fact that they were all toasty warm from her wipes warmer.

I did not spend two nights on the couch while Daniel tried to help Miriam sleep through the night simply because I couldn't stand to hear her cry and not do anything about it. I am a stern mama and I am totally and completely able to do what is best for my daughter in the long run without giving in to my emotions.

I did not spend a couple days disrupting our schedule, forcing my daughter out of her normal nap time. And I most certainly did not find her asleep in the following places as a result of that disruption:

This past week, I did not nurse my daughter a number of times simply to quiet her whining so that I could enjoy a few moments of watching Alias....er, I mean, a few moments of peace. I am a very attentive mother and know every trick in the book to calming my baby.
That being said, I also did not put Miriam on my lap and turn on the Media Player visualization tool to mesmerize my daughter so that I could catch up on my blog reading. (kudos to a fellow mommy for that idea)

I did not get lazy while trying to teach Miriam to use a spoon this last week. I have an abundance of patience with my sweet daughter and I most certainly did not try an alternative method to get her to eat her cereal. She is not lazy like her mama and has definitely not decided it is her favorite way to eat now.

Warning: Weak Stomachs BEWARE!

Ye Have Been Warned!

If you did not heed my warning, then I do not feel an ounce of regret for the consequences you will surely face.

It started with a rumble, a squeek......and then a horrid smell. There may have been some gagging, too. From me, of course.

These photographs will undoubtedly embarrass my daughter to no end in the future. But, I'm her mama and I went through 13 hours of labor and a c-section.....I have earned this right.

And I had been thinking just this morning....."It's been a couple days since I changed a poopy diaper."

She must have been saving up.

It even pooled up in her belly button.

We have a deal that the next time, she will wait for Daddy.

Yep. It was a doozie. And it warranted her first bath in the big girl tub. I had to literally hose her off. I didn't know where to begin.

Solid foods are doing a number on our digestive track. ; )

P.S.

Henceforth, the Mission: Impossible? will be considered complete. : )

Success!

Inquiring minds want to know

Ok, maybe not. But, there has been ONE person who has asked how Miriam's naps are going, so I thought I would update. Since she is napping right now!

After an entire week of her screaming and absolutely no consistent naps, I decided to go back to the bouncy seat in the living room. I don't mind if she does that and my goal still is to teach her to fall asleep on her own. Since moving her to the bouncy there have been significant improvements! She now falls asleep WITHOUT crying or screaming bloody murder about 90% of the time. And the time has gradually increased. Instead of a 30 minute nap, she is now going on 3 hours.

I have also observed her and realized that the 2 naps a day thing doesn't work for her. She does MUCH better if she takes one 3-4 hour nap instead of a morning and afternoon nap consisting of 1-2 hours each.

We also have changed her bedtime routine. Daniel gives her a bath, lotions her up and puts her diaper on and then hands her to me. She's like a little greased up watermelon. I loosely wrap her in a blanket so she is warm, but not cozy. That way she stays awake while she is nursing. Then after she is finished, I put her pajamas on. She is usually really sleepy by then or really crabby because I just woke her up. But, as with the naps, after about 4 or 5 days of crying, she now goes to sleep 90% of the time without crying.

The nights are a different story. She still is not sleeping well at all. She wakes up at least once a night and wants to nurse. I know that it is solely for comfort and I don't think I want to fight it right now. The soothing herself to sleep thing really took it out of me. So, for now, I let her nurse in the middle of the night.

I do think she is teething, though. She has been EXTRA drooly and crabby. Last night, she woke up at 1:45 and decided she was done sleeping. I took her downstairs and watched tv while she played until about 4:45. Then, I nursed her just so she would sleep and I could catch a little extra zzzz's. We cuddled together on the couch for a couple more hours and then she was up for the day. I gave her some tylenol and I think that helped her with her nap. YAY teeth!

Through all this, as I mentioned before, I have finally realized that I need to focus in on my child and what is best for her and what works best for me. I put way too much stock into what people say we should be doing. I am a mom now and I think I should trust my instincts.

My shoulders are rock hard. I think it's a combination of stress AND these massive food troughs I carry around for my daughter.

Rice Cereal: Food of the gods

Not Me! Monday

Inspired by Mckmama.

This last week is definitely not a blur. So much that I am definitely not having trouble coming up with things to write in this post.

I did not put in my headphones and carry around my iPod while Miriam screamed her head off every single day while I attempted to teach her how to fall asleep herself. She cried an average of 40 minutes each time and then I would go pick her up because she would be so wound up with screaming that she would never calm down; bringing her total nap time for the week to a whopping 3.5 hours. That's it. I did make sure to put the light sensor of her monitor near me so that I could watch the volume of her screams. Fun.

I definitely did not alter my "nap plan" about 10 times until I finally think I found one that will work. I also did not finally realize for the first time since becoming a mother that I need to ignore what everyone else tells me and really do what I think is best for Miriam and what I think will work with her.

I gave Miriam cereal for the first time this last week and she most certainly did not fall madly in love with it. So much so that now, when she sees me coming in the room with the bowl, she starts to flap her arms and make loud noises. You would think I was starving her, but the rolls on her thighs beg to differ.

This last week I did not burst into tears in public when a series of unfortunate events at Costco caused me a significant amount of embarrassment. And I most certainly did not call loudly for my mother who was about 15 feet away. I am a grown woman who acts every ounce her age and would never cry in public, let alone call for her mother to help her.

I cleaned my kitchen floor this week and it was certainly not the first time in at least a month. It was definitely not dirty enough to turn the soapy water a dingy gray and I definitely did not have to use the broom AND the vacuum to get all the crumbs up prior to mopping. We all know what a fabulous housekeeper I am.

And speaking of keeping house, this last week, my husband did not say to me, "I think maybe I should help you more with the laundry because there are about 5 empty bottles of vinegar down there." And I did not reply with relief in my voice. I am a stay-at-home mother and I definitely have many hours of free time that can be spent cleaning. I don't know what would deter me from my house being completely clean every second of the day. It couldn't possibly be my high needs baby who either stays up without a nap or wants my constant attention. Nope. No way. We all know that Miriam not only is a perfect baby, but that when you are a stay-at-home mother, you have a plethora of time to do housework AND laundry AND take care of your child. Right?????
