Favorite Flick Friday

So...as movies go, I am generally not a fan of scary ones. I never say, "I'm in the mood for a scary movie."

And if I DO watch a scary movie, I have to watch something funny afterwards and be sleeping next to my husband that night. Otherwise....it's "Friends" reruns for me. Who am I kidding? It's Friends reruns for me all the time.

But, there are a couple exceptions to my rule. I actually have a couple of scary movies I consider favorites simply because they are good stories. They have great characters, good writing and aren't of the horror genre that is so popular today. Movies like "Saw" make me sad what people consider entertainment.

One of these exceptions is the following......

YEAR: 2000

ACTORS: Michelle Pfeiffer, Harrison Ford

RATED: PG-13

GENRE: Thriller---it's also technically considered horror, but I hate the connotations that word has with movies nowadays, so we'll just say thriller. Or...exciting! Is that a genre?

THE SCOOP: Norman and Claire live in an old house that they had renovated. Claire begins to see things. That's the BASIC summary. There is so much depth, background and intrigue to this story. A ghost story on steroids.

FAVORITE CHARACTER: Norman Spencer.....this is Harrison Ford's character. He does a great job. But, I can't help but think that the reason I like his character is because they actually have him playing someone his age. It drives me crazy how he is always cast as a man in his thirties with an 8 year old son. The dude is old. He's grandpa. Stop casting him as though your audience is stupid.

FAVORITE LINE:
Jody: (showing off her new convertible) It's a beautiful thing, alimony. You lose a husband, you get a car. Think it'll help me pick up dudes?
Claire Spencer: Pick up any dudes yet?
Jody: I have one in the trunk.

WHY I LOVE THIS MOVIE:
FEAR FACTOR!!!! It truly is thrilling! I love the classic ghost storyline, but it's all the elements of this movie rolled into one. The music, the characters....they all combine to create a movie that can keep your interest and make an adult man scream like a girl....seriously. I saw this movie in the theater and the guy in front of me squealed. I will ALWAYS remember that. Hilarious. And it's mysterious. It's not one of those movies that you can't figure out if you are really trying, but it is enough of a mystery to constantly keep you wondering, what next?

If you aren't normally in to scary movies, maybe you could make an exception. A girls' night, maybe? But, definitely make sure your hubby will be sleeping next to you.
